Why are we doing *Human? To be seekers of seekers.

Our Why behind *Human: We want to be with Jesus in his heart for those who are seeking. We are made to go out and find the one, and to be with them in their journey. We are a guiding presence, helping people discover the transformative love and truth they are ultimately searching for.

Charisms of *Human

  1. Prophetic Insight - We see unique opportunities for spiritual renewal in the world. We take a broad approach to discerning the signs of the times to ensure our missional efforts are informed and grounded in reality.
  2. Humble Attunement - We seek to listen with Christ to the longings and questions stirring in the hearts of spiritual explorers,  and go out to meet them where they are without judgment, assumptions, or a self-serving agenda.
  3. Rooted Innovation - We remain true to the rich tradition and essential tenets of our Catholic faith, while embracing new methods and models of ministry suited to our times.
  4. Faithful Surrender - We trust deeply in God’s plan for the renewal of the Church and the success of our mission. We find freedom in submitting to Divine Providence, while embracing with fortitude the demanding nature of our work.
  5. Trust the Deep - We are willing to follow Christ’s call to put out into the deep, venturing beyond the doors of our churches to engage and accompany seekers. We believe that true transformation happens in the deep places within our humanity, and are not afraid to go to the depths with people.
  6. Tethered Fellowship - Just as Christ formed intimate bonds with His disciples, we seek relationships rooted in trust, mutual support, and spiritual growth.
  7. Charism-based Leadership - We honor the unique charisms of each team member and expect God to speak through the other as we prayerfully seek His guidance and share our perspectives.

Why is *Human different?

*Human is an experience that can help bolster other programs happening in your parish or diocese. The audience is specifically those who we aren't reaching as the Church yet--those who are spiritually seeking but not yet asking the question of Jesus but questions about their lonliness, career, and relationships. This is an opportunitiy to meet them where they are in those felt needs and walk with them in their journey of looking for fullfillment, purpose, and meaning.

  1. 12 weeks vs unrestricted time constraints
(What happens after Alpha? What happens when someone is not interested in Alpha? What happens when Alpha doesn’t “work”?
  2. Accompaniment vs Program as the central emphasis.
(Forming guides to be able to use tools/programs for anyone’s situation & an emphasis on listening/round-table dialogue)
  3. Forming the accompaniment capacity to speak to the specific needs of the times we are in and the culture we are trying to reach.
(Understanding worldview, dialoguing with our neighbour)

You as a guide

To be a great guide is simply loving the person in front of you with everything you already have in you. It’s not about memorizing a formula or words. It’s not about you changing the person in front of you. It’s about how the presence of love in us can transform those around us. When Jesus left the disciples, they didn’t have 4 steps written down to transform the world or even a full integration of love. But they had experienced Jesus and were carrying it out.

Some key principles that help anchor us are:

1. Listening with enduring compassionate curiosity

2. Non-judgemental and seeing other as God’s design

3. Witness + reflect back what is good in the other

You are asked to simply say yes and step in.
